I made an AI powered “Recipe Detective” App

I absolutely love trying out different foods and flavors from all over the globe, but sadly, I just don’t have the time or cash to jet-set everywhere and taste it all. To make things even harder, some more local ingredients may not be that easy to find in my part of the world. Is there a way to explore global flavors without breaking the bank, maybe by using similar and more available ingredients?

Assuming you haven’t been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of AI and large language models like ChatGPT. The new thing within tech that is said to make every part of our life easier. As a techie who builds websites, I’ve experimented with these tools quite a lot, and I have to admit, their capabilities are really impressive. Would it be possible to use this new powers to locate and try new food? Could it help me discover new recipes and foods from around the world without having to sift through tons of recipes to find one with ingredients I actually like, and skip the ones I don’t?

There was only one way to find out, I had to make an AI recipe finder tool, App thingie.
I wanted this tool to help me find recipes based on what I’m in the mood for, like a cozy soup or something with an Italian or Asian twist. It’d be awesome if I could just input what ingredients I have on hand, so I don’t need to shop every time. Also, being able to say if I’m looking for a quick meal or if I’ve got time to cook would be super helpful. Would this even be doable?

So I put my AI prompt engineering degree to good use and made an AI powered recipe finder, and it actually works really well. Sure, it might not nail the perfect recipe every single time, but being able to give feedback on what you liked or didn’t like and having it consider that for next try is honestly genius.
